ABOUT TAI
Tai is a licensed clinical social worker (LW60945702) who provides therapy for teens and adults in Bellevue, WA. Tai received his Bachelor of Art’s degree in Psychology from Earlham College. He earned his Master’s in Social Work at the University of Washington, Seattle.
As a social worker, Tai has worked with a variety of individuals ranging from adults experiencing substance use disorders to families experiencing a complex array of issues. Post graduate school, Tai worked at the Institute for Family Development as a family therapist for their Homebuilder’s program. As a Homebuilder’s Family Therapist, he provided in-home crisis intervention, counseling, and life-skills education for families who have children at imminent risk of placement in state-funded care. In addition to private practice, Tai is currently working in a community outpatient mental health clinic for children.
These experiences have allowed Tai to gain the skills necessary to engage with a variety of individuals experiencing multi-faceted issues and concerns. Therefore, Tai strongly believes in viewing his clients with a holistic and systemic perspective. Tai understands that a variety of factors influence and shape our lives. During sessions, Tai utilizes a mix of techniques from a variety of modalities including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Art, and Attachment and Relational therapies. Tai also enjoys incorporating mindfulness techniques into therapy and has been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Tai believes that the relationship between the therapist and client is the most important catalyst for change and therefore values engagement and finding the “right fit”.
Tai is originally from the Boston area and has enjoyed exploring the Pacific Northwest. During his free time, you can find Tai playing ice hockey, running, hiking, and trying new restaurants and foods. Tai believes being active is important for one’s mental health.
Tai Shinohara is private pay only. Payment is due at the time of service. If you would like to use out-of-network insurance benefits, Tai is happy to discuss this with you. Please contact your insurance company directly to verify mental health benefits
